All composite molded products are made of fiberglass cloth and
matting materials. These two ballistic materials are then wrapped
in exterior layers of carbon fiber. The two materials, fiberglass & carbon
fiber, are then infused with a high viscosity, flexible resin polymer.
RPM Composites chose to use these multiple materials
to gain the exact properties for which the materials were intended.
Fiberglass cloth is an abrasion- and impact-resistant material
that can be built up into layers to provide a desired thickness.
Carbon fiber when molded forms a very rigid structure yet, carbon
fiber alone is not worthy of ballistic impact. By using both
materials together they share each other’s specific properties
of impact distribution and rigidity. By infusing them with a
high-viscosity resin, these cloth materials become extremely
durable yet flexible. Current resin technology allows for molded
parts to have a super flexible memory characteristic without
sacrificing durability or visual clarity of the specific composite
part.
